The first general epistle of John

Chapter 1

And dwelt among us

1“Who was of a high estate, Whom we have heard, Whom the eyes of us have seen, Whom we have looked upon, and the hands of us have handled, concerning the meaning of the Life, 2and the Life was revealed, and we have seen and bear witness, and announce to you the Life the everlasting, Who was with the Father and was revealed to us, 3Whom we have seen and heard we announce unto you, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And indeed the fellowship that of ours is with the Father and with the Son of Him, Jesus Christ. 4And these things we write you that the joy of you may be full.

5“And this is the message which we have heard from Him, and announce to you, that the God a light He is, and within Him is no darkness at all. 6If we have been saying that we have fellowship with Him and participate within the darkness; we lie and do not practice the truth. 7But if we should take part within the light, as He is to the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ the Son of Him cleanses us from all sin.

8“If we have been saying that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not within us. 9If we confess the sins of us, He is faithful and just in that He had forgiven the sins of us, and had cleansed us from all unrighteousness. 10If we have been saying that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and the doctrine of Him is not within us.”

Chapter 2

1“My little children, these I write you, that ye may not sin: and if any one sinned, an advocate we have close upon the Father, a righteous Jesus Christ, 2and He, He is an Atoner concerning the sins of us, but not only concerning the sins of us but, also concerning the whole world’s, 3and by this we know that we have known Him, if the commands of Him we keep. 4The one saying `I have known Him,’ and the commandments of Him not keeping, a liar he is, and in him the truth is not; 5and whoever may keep the doctrine of Him, truly in him the love of the God hath been perfected; by this we know that in Him we are. 6The one saying within Him he doth remain is obliged in the manner that He walked also himself so to walk.

7“Brethren/siblings, I’m not writing you a new commandment, but an old command, that ye had from of first. The command, the old is the message which ye heard from of first. 8Yet, a new command I write you, which thing is true in Him and in you, because the darkness doth pass away, and the true light doth now shine; 9he who is saying, in the light he is, and his sibling is hating, in the darkness he is till now; 10he who is loving his sibling, in the light he doth remain, and a stumbling block in him there is not; 11and he who is hating his sibling, in the darkness he is, and in the darkness he doth walk, and he hath not known whither he doth go, because the darkness did blind his eyes.

12“I write you, little children, because to you have been forgiven the sins by reason of the name of Him. 13I write you, fathers, because you have known the One from a beginning. I write you, young men, because you have overcome the evil one. I write to you, little children, because you have known the Father.

14I wrote you, fathers, because you have known Him who is from a beginning. I have written you, young men, because you are strong, and the message of the God abides in you, and you have overcome the evil. 15Do not love the world, or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

16For all that belongs to the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the haughtiness of this life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.17And the world passes away, and the lust of it, but he who does the will of the God abides forever. 18Little children, it is a final aeon. And just as you have heard that the Antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have risen up, from which we know that it is a last hour.

19They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they were of us, they would have continued with us. But they went out so that it might be revealed that they were not all of us. 20Moreover, you have received of the holy One an anointing, and you know all. 21I have not written you because you do not know the truth, but because you know it, and know that no lie is from the truth. 22Who is the liar if not the one denying that Jesus is the Christ? It is the Antichrist who is denying the Father and the Son. 23Everyone denying the Son neither has the Father.

24Therefore what you heard from of first, in you let it remain. If what you heard from of first did remain in you, also you for the Son and for the Father will endure. 25And this is the promise that He has promised us the life the never-ending. 26These things I have written you concerning those leading you astray. 27But as for you, the anointing which you received of Him abides in you and you do not need anyone to teach you. But, as His anointing teaches you concerning all things and it is true and it is no lie and as He has taught you, you endure for Him.

28And now, little children, endure for Him, so that when He is revealed, we may have confidence and not be shamed of Him at the coming of Him. 29If you know that righteous He is you know that everyone doing the righteousness has been born of Him.

Chapter 3

1Behold what manner of love the Father has given us, that we should be called children of a God. For this very reason the world does not acknowledge us, because it did not accept Him. 2Beloved, now we are children of a God, but it is not yet made manifest what we shall be. But we know that if He is displayed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. 3And every one having this hope fixed on Him purifies himself, even as that One is pure.

4Every one practising the sin also practices lawlessness, for the sin is the lawlessness. 5And you know that He was revealed that He might take away the sins of us and to Him is no sin. 6Whosoever endures for Him sinneth not. Everyone sinning hasn’t seen Him not even known Him.

7Little children, let no one seduce you. He being devoted to the righteousness is righteous, inasmuch as He is righteous. 8He being devoted to the sin of the Devil he is, for from of offset the Devil sins. For this same purpose the Son of the God was revealed, that He might nullify the works of the Devil.

9All the having been born of the God does not perpetrate sin, because a seed of Him in him dwells, and he is not able to sin, because he has been born of the God. 10By this is manifest the children of the God and the children of the devil: Every one not practicing righteousness is not of the God, and he not loving the sibling of him.

11For this purpose is the message which you heard from of first, that we should love one another, 12not as Cain who was of the evil one and slew the sibling of him. And for what reason did he slay him? Because the works of him were evil and the works of the sibling were righteous. 13Do not marvel, siblings of me, if the world hates you. 14We are conscious that we have crossed over from the death unto the life, because we love the siblings. The one not loving the sibling abides in the death.

15The one despising the sibling of him a murderer he is and, you are aware that every murderer has not eternal life abiding in him. 16By this we have come to know the love, because that One on behalf of us laid down the life of Him. And we ought on behalf of the siblings of us the lives to lay down. 17But whoever has this world’s goods, and sees his sibling having need, and shuts off his compassion towards him, how does the love of the God abide in him?

18My little siblings, let us not love by mere talk not even by the tongue but by an action and with sincerity. 19And by this we know that we are of the truth, and before Him we shall quieten the hearts of us, 20that if the heart of us condemns us, the God is greater than the heart of us, and He knows all things. 21Beloved, if the heart of us does not reprehend us, we have freedom toward the God. 22And whatever we desire we accept as being from Him, because we keep the commandments of Him and we do the things pleasing before Him.

23“And this is the commandment of Him: that we should believe in the name of the Son of Him Jesus Christ and should love one another, just as He gave commandment. 24And the one keeping the commandments of Him abides in Him, and He in him. And by this we know that He abides in us, by the Spirit whom He gave us.

Chapter 4

1”Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see if they are of the God, because many false prophets have gone forth into the world. 2 By this you know the Spirit of the God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in flesh is of the God 3and every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ in flesh having come is not of the God. And this is that of the Antichrist you heard is coming, and even now is already in the world.

4”You are of the God, little children, and you have overcome them, because greater is the One for you than he who is for the world. 5They are of the world, therefore they speak of the world, and the world hears them. 6We are of the God. The one knowing the God hears us. The one who is not of the God does not hear us. From this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of the fantasies. 7Beloved, let us love one another, for the love is from the God, and everyone who loves has been born of the God, and acknowledges the God. 8The one who does not love has not experienced the God. For the God is love. 9By this, the love of the God was revealed to us, that the Son of Him, the only begotten, the God sent into the world that we might live because of Him.

10”By this is the love, not that we loved the God, but that He loved us and sent the Son of Him an atonement concerning the sins of us. 11”Beloved, if in this way the God loved us; we ought also to love one another. 12No one yet, has ever seen a God. If we love one another, the God dwells in us and the love of Him it having being perfected in us. 13By this we know that we dwell in Him, and He in us, because He has given us of the Spirit of Him. And we have seen and testify that the Father sent the Son a Saviour of the world.

15“Whosoever confessed that Jesus is the Son of the God, the God dwells in him and he in the God. 16And we have known and have believed the love that the God has for us. A God is love; and he who abides in love abides in the God, and the God in him. 17By this the love has been perfected among us, that we may have boldness in the day of the judgment, for as that One is, so also we are for this the world.

18 “There is no fear in the love, but the perfect love casts out the fear, because the fear has chastisement. For the one fearing has not been perfected for the love. 19We love Him because He first loved us. 20If anyone has said, ‘I love the God’, and hates the sibling of him, a liar he is. For the one not loving the sibling of him whom he has seen, how is he able to love the God whom he has not seen?

21“And we have this commandment from Him, that the one loving the God should also love the sibling of him.”

Chapter 5

1“Every one believing that Jesus is the Christ, by the God has been born, and every one loving the One who did the begetting, doth love also him having been born by Him. 2By this we know that we love the children of the God, whenever we love the God and the commands of Him we keep. 3For this is the love of the God, that the commands of Him we keep and the commands of Him are not burdensome. 4Because every one having been born by the God doth overcome the world, and this is the victory the overcoming the world, the faith of us. 5Who is the one overcoming the world, if not the one believing that Jesus is the Son of the God?

6This is the one coming through water and blood—Jesus the Christ, not by the water only, but by the water and the blood. And the Spirit is the One testifying, because the Spirit is the truth.  7Because three are who are testifying for the heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit, and these—the three—Each are [Each exist]. 8And three are who are testifying for the earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood, and the three are unto the One.

9“If the witness of the men we receive, the witness of the God is greater. For this is the witness of the God which He has testified about the Son of Him. 10The one believing on the Son of the God has the witness for himself. The one not believing on the God has made Him a liar, because he has not believed on the witness the God has witnessed concerning the Son of Him. 11And this is the witness, the God gave us everlasting life, and this, the life, is by the Son of Him. 12The one who retains the Son has the life; the not having the Son of the God does not possess the life. 13These I wrote you, the ones believing upon the name of the Son of the God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may believe on the name of the Son of the God.

14“And this is the confidence that we have toward Him, that if we desire anything according to the will of Him, He hears us. 15And if we know that He hears us, whatever we desire, we know that we have the requests that we desired from Him. 16If anyone had seen the sibling of him sinning a sin not unto death, he shall ask, and He shall give to him life to the ones not sinning unto death. There is a sin unto death, not concerning that do I say that he should ask. 17All wrongdoing is a sin, and there is a sin not unto death.

18“We know that everyone, the one having been born of the God, sinneth not, but the one born of the God guards himself, and the evil one touches him not. 19We know that we are of the God, and the whole world is under the influence of the evil. 20And we know that the Son of the God has come, and He has given us insight so that we may know the true. And we are for the true, for the Son of Him Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and the life everlasting.

21“Little children, guard yourselves from the fantasies. Amen.”
