The second general epistle of John

In the reading of this epistle consider Rom 11:1-, “I ask then, ‘Did the God reject the people of Him? Let it not be said! For even I am an Israelite, an offspring of Abraham, of a tribe of Benjamin.  The God did not reject the people of Him whom He foreknew. Or do you not know what the Scripture says to Elijah how he interceded the God concerning the Israel saying, ‘Lord, they killed the prophets of You and the alters of You they destroyed, and I am left alone, and they seek my life.’

“But what is the Divine answer to him? ‘I have reserved to Myself seven thousand men who have not bowed a knee to the Baal.’ Even so then, also to the present time a remnant according to an election of favour has come into being.”

The reader must therefore decide who the ‘lady’ is that John is addressing; is she of the ‘natural branch’ or of ‘a wild olive tree’ grafted in [Rom 11:-21-]?

Be a good neighbour.

1The elder to an elect lady and to the children of her whom I love sincerely, and not I only, but also all the ones knowing the truth, 2for the love of the indwelling truth will be among us and with us unto the age. 3Pleasing circumstances, goodwill, peace shall be amongst us from Father God and from a Lord Jesus Christ the Son of the Father, for sake of sincerity and generosity. 4I rejoiced exceedingly since I met of the children of thee walking according to gospel truth we received, from the Father, as guidance.

5“And now I beseech thee, lady, not as if I were writing you a new commandment but that which we had from of first that we manifest genuine concern for one another. 6Moreover, this is the love that we should walk according to the directions of Him. This is the commandment even as ye heard from of first in order that to it ye should walk. 7For many imposters went out into the world who do not confess Jesus Christ coming in flesh. This is the imposter even the Antichrist. 8Keep guard over yourselves, lest you destroy the labours we have done, moreover, that ye may have received a full reward.

9“Every one disobeying and not remaining in the teaching of the Christ hath not a God. The one remaining by the teaching of the Christ, he has both the Father and the Son. 10If one approaches you and does not convey the same teaching, do not receive him into a house, and do not say to him, ‘God speed’. 11For him saying to him words of love is a partaker in the deeds—the evil—of him.

12“Whilst having many things to write you I did not wish by paper and ink but desired to visit you and would discuss face to face causing the joy of us being fulfilled. 13The children of the sibling of you—the exalted one—embrace you. So be it.”
