Dear Joe and Sally,
Glad that you enjoyed your break; welcome ‘home’. Yes, I agree not all the ‘sayings’ in the Bible still hold true. Said the new inmate to a fellow inmate when he found himself ‘down under’, “What you are here for, is no longer a sin up there.”
I was thinking concerning Esau and Jacob. At least Esau got a whole pot of ‘red stuff’ in exchange for his rights as firstborn.
However, Christian men have given up their right to their own peril. Worse still, by far, Christian women have given up their ‘sanctuary’. For the second time they have been thoroughly deceived. If only they understood what ‘power’ they have given up by not being veiled. She might wish to make a promise or do something knowing it would be to her husband’s peril. All she has to do is veil herself, ‘pray her prayer’, in her husband’s absence, and ‘let the law take its course’, Num 30:13, “A husband decides whether or not his wife has to keep any vow to do something or any oath to do about something.
“If he says nothing to her about it day after day, this means he’s decided that she must keep her vow or oath. She must keep it because he said nothing to her when he heard about it. But if he cancels it later, he will suffer the consequences.”
Compare the following two translations (1Tim 2:13- )
1 “But I permit not a woman to teach, nor to have dominion over a man, but to be in quietness. For Adam was first formed, then Eve. And Adam was not beguiled, but the woman being beguiled hath fallen into transgression. But she shall be saved through her childbearing, if they continue in faith and love and sanctification with sobriety.”
2 “I do not permit a woman to teach, nor have authority over a man, but she must remain silent. Adam was formed first, and then Eve; and Adam was not deceived, but his wife was thoroughly deceived, and so became involved in transgression. Yet a woman will be brought safely through childbirth if she and her husband continue to live in faith and love and growing holiness, with habitual self-restraint.”
The following translation has a different approach, “Let a woman in quietness learn in all subjection, and a woman I do not suffer to teach, nor to rule a husband, but to be in quietness, for Adam was first formed, then Eve. However, she and all women will be saved through the birth of the Child, if they lead respectable lives in faith, love, and holiness.”
It is written 1Cor 11:1-, “Be imitators of me, as I am also of Christ. But I praise you, brothers, that in all things, you have remembered me, and even as I delivered them to you, you hold fast the traditions. However, I want you to know that the Christ is the head of every man, a man a head of a woman, and a head of the Christ, the God. Every man praying or prophesying, having anything down over his head shames the Head of him. But every woman praying or prophesying with the head unveiled dishonours her head, for it is the same as being shaved.
“For if a woman is not veiled, let her also be shorn. But if it is shameful for a woman to be shorn, or to be shaved, let her be veiled. For truly a man ought not to have the head covered, being an image and glory of a God. But the woman is a glory of a man. For a man is not from a woman, but a woman from a man. For indeed a man was not created for the sake of the woman, but a woman because of the man. Because of this, the woman ought to have authority on the head, because of the angels.
“However, man is not without involvement from woman, or woman without involvement from man, toward a Superior. For as the woman is out of the man, so also the man through the woman but all these from the God. You judge among yourselves! Is it fitting a woman to pray to God unveiled? Or, does not nature/tradition itself teach you that if a man indeed wears long hair, it is a dishonour to him? But if a woman has hair long, it is a glory to her? because the long hair, instead of a wraparound, has been given her. But if anyone thinks to be contentious, we do not have such a custom, or the assemblies of God.”
Paul, to quieten the sceptics, was inspired to reprimand them as everybody had something to say at their gatherings, 1Co 14:26-, “How is it then, brethren? when ye come together, every one of you hath a psalm, hath a doctrine, hath a tongue, hath a revelation and hath an interpretation; let all things be done unto edifying.
“If any man speaks in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course; and let one interpret. But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to the God. Let the prophets speak two or three, and let the other judge. If any thing be revealed to another that sitteth by, let the first hold his peace.
“For ye may all prophesy one by one, that all may learn, and all may be comforted. And spirits of prophets are subject to prophets. For the God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.
“Let your women keep silence in the churches! for it is not permitted unto them to speak out; but let them be submitted! as also, the law says. And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home. For it is a shame for women to speak up in the church. What? Came the word of God out from you? or came it unto you only?
“If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord. But if any man be ignorant, let him be ignorant. Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues. Let all things be done decently and in order.”
Your friends may argue that I am putting words into the mouth of a translator. You will agree that the above quotes are as near as possible to the original; and, ‘so say all of us’. It sure is a ‘sign of the time’, 2Ti 3:1-, “You must realize, however, that in the last days difficult times will come. The men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, unfeeling, uncooperative, slanderous, degenerate, brutal, hateful of what is good, traitors, reckless, conceited and lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God.
“They will hold to an outward form of godliness but deny its power. Stay away from such people. For some of these men go into homes and deceive insignificant women who are weighed down with error and swayed by all kinds of earnest desires. These women are always studying but are never able to arrive at a full knowledge of the truth.
“Just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so these men oppose the truth. They are depraved in mind and their faith is a counterfeit. But they will not get very far because, as in the case of those two men, their stupidity will be plain to everyone.
“But you have observed my teaching, my way of life, my purpose, my faith, my patience, my love, my endurance… But as for you, continue in what you have learned and found to be true, because you know from whom you learned it. From infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures that are able to give you the wisdom you need for salvation through faith in the Messiah Jesus. All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good action.
“In the presence of the God and the Messiah Jesus, who is going to judge those who are living and those who are dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I solemnly appeal to you to proclaim the message. Be ready to do this whether or not the time is convenient. Refute, warn, and encourage with the utmost patience when you teach.
“For the time will come when people will not tolerate healthy doctrine, but with itching ears will surround themselves with teachers who cater to their people’s own desires. They will refuse to listen to the truth and will turn to myths. But you must be clear-headed about everything. Endure suffering. Do the work of an evangelist. Devote yourself completely to your ministry.”
Concerning Jesus’ appearing and his kingdom Paul writes, 2Th 2:1-, “Now we ask you, brothers, regarding the coming of our Lord Jesus, the Messiah, and our gathering together to Him. Let not your mind be so quickly upset or alarmed when someone claims that we said, either by some spirit, conversation, or letter that the Day of the Lord has already come. Do not let anyone deceive you in any way, for it will not come unless the falling away takes place first and the man of sin, who is destined for destruction, is revealed.
“He opposes and exalts himself above every so-called god or object of worship. As a result, he seats himself in the sanctuary of the God and he declares that he is a God. Don’t you remember that I repeatedly told you about these things when I was still with you? You know what it is that is now holding him back, so that he will be revealed when his time comes. For the secret of this lawlessness is already at work, but only, until the person now holding it back is taken away.
“Then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will destroy with the breath of his mouth, rendering the grandeur of his coming useless. Whose coming is according to the Satan’s operation, with all power, signs, and lying wonders, and in all deception of unrighteousness among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, for their being delivered.
“And for this reason, the God will send them an operation of the error for them to believe the lie that all may be judged, those not believing the truth, but who have delighted in the unrighteousness. But we ought to thank the God always concerning you, brothers, beloved by a Lord, because the God chose you a first fruit unto salvation through sanctification of Spirit and through faith in truth.”
Now I don’t know if you and Sally listened to Lynnette’s talk show on Friday 12 October. It is available on RSG’s ‘potgooi’. Dr Mary-Ann Plaatjies was the guest. Dr Mary-Ann Plaatjies van Huffel of the Faculty of Theology at Stellenbosch University (SU) made history on Monday (1 October) when she was elected as moderator of the Uniting Reformed Church in Southern Africa (URCSA). She is the first woman to hold such a position in one of the large Southern African churches.
I must confess halfway through I lost interest. Of the listeners quoted Scripture but I’m afraid, Dr Plaatjies did no justice to the intelligence of the listeners. The following came to mind, “For the secret of this lawlessness is already at work, but only, until the person now holding it back is taken away. And for this reason, the God will send them an operation of the error for them to believe the lie that all may be judged, those not believing the truth, but who have delighted in the unrighteousness.”
The saying goes, ‘If two agree one becomes obsolete.’ As matters stand, neither she nor I am ‘obsolete’. However, if we could agree, I would gladly hand over my site www.myhand.co.za into the hands of such a learned and influential person. However, who is this ‘person’ holding back the Lawless one? The sooner that ‘person’ is removed, the sooner can Jesus return and make ‘that Lawless one’, useless.
The parable of the tares does shed some light [http://www.myhand.co.za/2015/10/04/whilst-men-slept/], Matt 13:38, “The field is the world and the good seed, these are the sons of the kingdom, but the tares are the sons of the evil one. The enemy who sowed them is the devil, the harvest is the end of the age, and the reapers are the angels.
“Therefore just as the tares are gathered and burned with fire, thus it will be at the end of this age. The Son of Man will send forth His messengers, and they will gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and those who work iniquity, and will cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Then the righteous will shine forth like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He, who has ears to hear, let him hear!”
To John, while on the Isle of Patmos, it was revealed who this ‘person’ is. As was the case with Judas so with this ‘person’. “The Son of Man will die, as the Scriptures say. But it’s going to be terrible for the one who betrays me! That man would be better off if he had never been born.”
Concerning that person ‘holding Antichrist back; better were she never born. I believe she, ‘that person’, has been born.
A day will come when she will be voted President of ‘The World Religion’, Rev 17:3-, “Then the angel carried me away in the Spirit into a wilderness. I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet beast that was controlled by blasphemy… On her forehead was written a secret name: BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF PROSTITUTES AND DETESTABLE THINGS OF THE EARTH. I saw that the woman was drunk with the blood of the saints and the blood of the witnesses to Jesus.
“I was very surprised when I saw her. ‘Why are you surprised?’ The angel asked me. ‘I will tell you the secret of the woman and the beast with the seven heads and the ten horns that carries her. You saw the beast, which once was, is no longer, and will come from the bottomless pit and go to its destruction. Those living on earth, whose names were not written in the Book of Life from the foundation of the world, will be surprised when they see the beast because it was, is no longer, and will come again.
“’This calls for a mind that has wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains on which the woman is sitting. They are also seven kings. Five of them have fallen, one is living, and the other has not yet come. When he comes, he must remain in power for a little while. The beast that was and is no longer is the eighth king, but it belongs with the seven kings and goes to its destruction.
“’The ten horns that you saw are ten kings who have not yet received a kingdom. They will receive authority to rule as kings with the beast for one hour. They have one purpose: to give their power and authority to the beast. They will wage war against the lamb, but the lamb will conquer them because he is Lord of lords and King of kings. Those who are called, chosen, and faithful are with him.’
“The angel also told me, ‘The bodies of water you saw, on which the prostitute is sitting, are peoples, multitudes, nations, and languages. The ten horns and the beast you saw will hate the prostitute. They will leave her abandoned and naked. They will eat her flesh and burn her up with fire, for the God has placed within them a desire to carry out his purpose by uniting to give their kingdom to the beast until the God’s words are fulfilled.’”
What these ‘deceived women’ and ‘false teachers’ do not understand is, the God is protecting Christian women by not allowing them to ‘speak out in the assembly’ and should they wish to pray or, urged to prophesy, they should be veiled because of the angels.
The reason is so obvious, Gen 3:13-, “Then a LORD the God said to the woman, ‘What have you done?’ She said, ‘The snake tricked me, so I ate…’The man said, ‘The woman You put here with me gave me fruit from that tree. So I ate it.’”
Never again will a Christian man be able to say, “The Women, those You ‘called’, taught me and I believed.” On the other hand, never again will a Christian woman be able to say, “But You called me ‘into the ministry’.”
I thank the God of heaven that I won’t be the judge on The Day of Judgement. Jesus also said, Joh 12:46-, “I have come as a light into the world, so that whoever believes in Me may not abide in darkness. And if anyone hears My words and does not believe, I do not judge him; for I did not come that I might judge the world, but that I might save the world.
“’He that rejects Me, and does not receive My words, has that which judges him, the word which I spoke, that word will judge him in the last day. For I have not spoken on My own authority; but the Father who sent Me gave Me a command, what I should say and what I should speak. And I know that His command is eternal life. Therefore, whatever I speak, as the Father has said to Me, thus I speak… But now I am going to Him who sent Me, and none of you asks Me, ‘Where are You going?’
“’But because I have spoken these things to you, sorrow has filled your heart. Nevertheless, I speak the truth to you. It is profitable for you that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you. And when He comes, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: Of sin, because they do not believe in Me; of righteousness, because I am going to My Father and you see Me no more; of judgment, because the ruler of this world has been judged.
“’I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will announce to you things to come.’” “…there is but one God and but one Mediator of God and men, Christ Jesus, Himself man; who gave Himself as the redemption price for all, a fact testified to at its own appointed time, and of which I (Paul) have been appointed a herald and an Apostle (I am speaking the truth: it is not a fiction), a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.
“So then I would have the men everywhere pray, lifting up holy hands which are unstained with anger or strife. And I would have the women dress becomingly, with modesty and self-control, not with plaited hair or gold or pearls or costly clothes, but, as befits women making a claim to godliness, with the ornament of good works.
“A woman should quietly learn from others with entire submissiveness. I do not permit a woman to teach, nor have authority over a man, but she must remain silent. For Adam was formed first, and then Eve. And Adam was not deceived, but his wife was thoroughly deceived, and so became involved in transgression. Yet a woman will be brought safely through childbirth if she and her husband continue to live in faith and love and growing holiness, with habitual self-restraint.”
In the law it is written, Num 30:-10-, “Suppose a married woman makes a promise to the LORD. If her husband hears about the promise and says nothing, she must do what she said. But if he hears about the promise and does object, she no longer has to keep it. The LORD will forgive her, because her husband would not allow her to keep the promise. Her husband has the final say about any promises she makes to the LORD. If her husband hears about a promise and says nothing about it for a whole day, she must do what she said, since he did not object, the promise must be kept. But if he waits until the next day to stop her from keeping her promise, he is the one who must be punished. These are the laws that the LORD gave Moses about husbands and wives, and about young daughters who still live at home.”
One will notice concerning ‘because the long hair, instead of a wraparound, has been given her’ that a ‘wraparound’ is not a veil. The long hair is a woman’s glory. The God could have created her having no hair. Then she would have had to wear a wraparound, as is the tradition of some nations whose women are not blessed with long hair. Over and above the God protecting Christian woman He indeed promised them that they will be brought safely through childbirth if they and their husbands continue to live in faith and love and growing holiness, with habitual self-restraint.
Moreover, the God entrusted Christian women with the responsibility of being the managers of their own homes. They are, together with the older Christian women, the ones who are to raise tomorrow’s husbands, mothers and the ones who will be in power. Within one generation, if Christian grannies and Christian young mothers put their minds to it, our country will boast having ‘perfect’ husbands who will match, Eph 5:-28-, “Husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies; he that loves his own wife loves himself.
“For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as also the Lord does the church. For we are members of His body, of His flesh and of His bones. ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.’ This is a great mystery, but I speak in reference to Christ and to the church. Nevertheless you also individually, let each one love his own wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respect her husband.”
In a nutshell, Tit 2:1-, “Titus, you must teach only what is correct. Tell the older men to have self-control and to be serious and sensible. Their faith, love, and patience must never fail. Tell the older women to behave, as those who love the Lord should. They must not gossip about others or be slaves of wine. They must teach what is proper, so the younger women will be loving wives and mothers. Each of the younger women must be sensible and kind, as well as a good homemaker, who puts her own husband first. Then no one can say insulting things about God’s message.”
Paul says, “If any man thinks himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord. But if any man be ignorant, let him be ignorant. Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues. Let all things be done decently and in order.”
I trust this will help your friends realise that, the sayings of the Bible indeed ‘hold true’. The Bible, not the Constitution, is a Christian’s ‘last word’.
Having written the above, I know moreover, I, like Jesus, too could weep, Mat 23:37-, “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often would I have gathered your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing! Behold, your house is left to you desolate.”
The Emerging Church has emerged and her destruction will come. However, there is Someone knocking, Rev 3:20-, “Behold, I stand at the door and I am knocking. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, then I will come in to him and I will dine with him, and he with Me. He that overcomes, I will grant to him to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne. He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”
To the ‘True Church’ the Same One has left this message, Rev 3:7-, “These things says the Holy One, the True One, He who has the key of David, He that opens and no man shuts, except He that opens, and no man shall open. ‘I know your works. Behold, I have set before you an open door, and no man can shut it; because you have a little strength and have kept My word, and you have not denied My name…
“’Because you have kept My command to persevere, I also will keep a watch over you during the hour of temptation which is about to come upon the whole world, to test those that dwell upon the earth. I am coming quickly! Hold fast what you have, that no man may take your crown.
“’He who overcomes, I will make him a pillar in the temple of My God, and He will never go out of it again (there was a time that He did leave, Eze 11:23, “And the glory of the LORD went up from the midst of the city, and stood upon the mountain which is on the east side of the city). And I will write on him the name of My God and the name of the city of My God, the New Jerusalem, which comes down from heaven from My God. And My new name. He, who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.’”
Yes, you may find the above reading different. However, the original does allow it; it depends upon the translators’ understanding. The ‘seven churches’ of Rev 1:19- could be understood as the seven churches in history, Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamos, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia and Laodicea. I believe we are in the time of the Philadelphia and Laodicea churches; the Philadelphia church being the ‘faithful’ church, which will be ‘watched over’ during the time of the ‘great tribulation. The Laodicea church is the Emerging Church the church which will be ‘holding back’ the ‘man of sin’, 2Th 2:1-, “Now we ask you, brothers, regarding the coming of our Lord Jesus, the Messiah, and our gathering together to Him. Let not your mind be so quickly upset or alarmed when someone claims that we said, either by some spirit, conversation, or letter that the Day of the Lord has already come.
“Do not let anyone deceive you in any way, for it will not come unless the falling away takes place first and the man of sin, who is destined for destruction, is revealed… You know what it is that is now holding him back, so that he will be revealed when his time comes. For the secret of this lawlessness is already at work, but only, until the person now holding it back is taken away.” The message is loud and clear, Rev 18:-4-, “Come out of her, my people, so that you may have no part in her sins and in her punishments.”
The first ‘church’ and her ‘siblings’, I believe, is made up of those who left Paul, 2Ti 1:15, “This you know, that all those in Asia have turned away from me, of whom are Phygellus and Hermogenes.”
His advice is, 2Co 13:5-, “Make a test of yourselves, if you are in the faith; make certain of yourselves. Or are you not conscious in yourselves that Jesus Christ is in you, if you are truly Christ’s?
“But it is my hope that you will have no doubt that we are truly Christ’s. Now our prayer to the God is that you may do no evil, not in order that it may be put to our credit, but so that you may do what is right, whatever we may seem. Because we are able to do nothing against what is true, but only for it.”
